Hello,
I haven't posted any journals in a while so I thought I would this week as it is NEDA.
National eating disorder awareness week. Now, even though this particular group is American, I think it's important to make people aware of it.
I myself am from England, but I appreciate helpful groups such as this, for all kinds of mental health issues. The UK version is
B-Eat.
I care about this one in particular because I have struggled with an eating disorder for 6 years and although I am not at my lowest, in weight or state of mind, I am still recovering. I understand it's a slow process and so I find helpful and informative campaigns like this to really boost motivation.
I thought I'd signal boost onto Deviantart because I see there are a lot of mental health issues on here, whether it be low self-esteem or similar, and I want people to understand that, however frightening, talking to someone or even getting someone else's perspective is extremely useful. It can be the first step to recovery.
In the very least it lets you know that you are not alone in feeling certain ways.
There are a lot of helplines out there, however they are sometimes hidden. Society is becoming more aware of issues like eating disorders, but we are still in the early stages of fully educating people about them.
So even if you have none of these problems, sometimes it's good to just read a bit about them. You probably know of someone with an issue and maybe you can begin to understand.
Thanks for listening,
Happy NEDA week 2014!
