DH: Marauder's Map by Catching-Smoke DH: Marauder's Map by Catching-Smoke
I don't know when, or even if I'll get the chance to colour these line-arts I've been doing lately.

This is one of the film missing moments which I was surprised they didn't show... (did they? I'm having a little bit of a brain malfunction and can't remember. I don't think they did.)
I mean, you got to see Harry watch Snape trudge around his office, but no Harry pining after Ginny? It's really no wonder that people who only watch the films do not understand the Harry/Ginny relationship. The only times we ever see them is when they spontaneously kiss. Film-wise, they've never dated.

Same goes for the Ron/Hermione dynamic, it's really not properly there in the films, (they've put a dynamic there, I don't feel like it's canon Ron/Herm though).
I was sitting in my standard 7 hour lab session the other day and somehow my bench got onto discussing Harry Potter. Now clearly they were not as obsessed as me, so I downplayed how much I loved it since I had another 4 hours to go until the end of lab and didn't want to sit in awkwardness.
(Xander: 'Who ends up together again?' Me: 'err... it's Ron and Hermione, Harry and Ginny... isn't it?')
Anyway, my partner, Xander, thought the whole Harry/Ginny and especially Ron/Herm were ridiculous. ('Like that would ever happen!') I kept my mouth shut.
One particularly Rah girl even had the audacity to say she was a big Harry Potter nerd as well, at which I internally laughed. She then went on to explain how the first two films were crap and boring but the forth film was her favourite...
I am very proud of my own self-restraint.

I try to hide my HP geekiness in the outside world. I save it until they know me and then BAM, explosion of Potter.

I'm not saying that people who love the films but have never read the books aren't fans, just don't get into a debate with someone who knows ALL the facts, right? In case you can't tell, I'm a big Potterhead, too.

I agree. After the second film, there was a lack of Harry/Ginny moments in the rest of the films. I blame David Yates and the script writer and whoever else, for ruining Harry and Ginny's relationship!!
Seriously, tieing shoelaces and zipping up dresses were the most awkward for Harry and Ginny.

Ron and Hermione's relationship was probably the only good romance in the films, but it wasn't enough for all of us fans because again, they missed a few really awesome scenes.

Agree. Yates (AND CO.) is an idiot that ruined Harry Potter And Ginny Weasley. I mean would it ,like, hurt them to do the 'first kiss' scene from the book?
Or the fact that they were dating? That ment so much to Harry...And they ripped it away from him...From us PotterHeads. The shoelace thing is just absurd...Ginny Weasley (in the books) doesnt do shoelaces. Seriously. She was so badass in the books and in the movies shes just ..."eh." Plus Bonnie has blue eyes not chocolate brown ones :p
Ron and Hermione were...Nothing like in the books in my opinion. They had zero chemistry. It was like "Oh. We're ment to be... Lets suddenly fall in love. Then get me outta here. " It was to obious that Rupert and Emma are really good friends. But in the books it was like sure from day one. Atleast to me.
In the last two movies there was more Harry/Hermione action. Seriously. In the books they were friends but here they were...Flirting. All the time. :/
Movies SUCK. Or Yates (and co.) does. :)

this is so cute. and I totally agree with you that the relationships are not very well defined in the films. Ron and Hermione have, like, zero chemistry, and then in the last two films, it was almost like they realized those two were supposed to be together and tried to brute force it. Didn't work real well, especially since they gave us so many adorable H/Hr moments. Ah well, they made it look like more of a triangle than it was supposed to be, but it happens.
but random movie-vs-book rant aside, this is really well done, I've always quite liked the way the movies handled the map and you've portrayed it really well :)

I'd love the H/Hr moments more in the film if they were balanced with some Harry/Ron bromance and Ron/Hermione love. :( Sadly not. But still I can't help but love anything Potter!

Yeah, I have too do that. In class when there is something that reminds me of HP I have to literally bite my tongue to stop saying my thoughts out loud. I hate how they portrayed relationships in the films. I really think they should have put Luna and Neville together.

I can completely identify with your Potter obsession, but you're a much wiser person for downplaying it. Mine usually just hangs out there for the world to see.
As for this drawing, I absolutely love it. Typical Harry to be pining and sentimental (not that there's anything wrong with that), but that's one of his endearing traits. And you're absolutely right, the films didn't do nearly enough for the relationships.
Well done on this!

I admire your restraint. I say it loud and wear it proud! One of my teachers told me that she'd only seen the first three films and had never read the books. She then made the mistake of asking me if she should go see DH: Part 2. I did try to resist - honestly! I told her I didn't want to spoil the end for her but she said it didn't matter and, well...

Needless to say, she emerged from her classroom about half an hour later looking both freaked and exhausted. I doubt I took a single breath during the little 'HP Crash Course' I subjected her to.

To be fair, Harry might get Ron/Hermione vibes.

'Harry, why're you smiling?'
@Huh? Oh I just got this feeling that some people I know finally figured out they should be together.'
'Ok...?'

I know how you feel-- except I can't restrain myself sometimes and have to make a reference.

ps XANDER? You have to call him "Harris" because of the Buffy character, Xander Harris. Unless you don't like Buffy, then in which case, you are not human.

Yeah, I was sad that this was not in the movie. And you're right, the whole Ron/Hermione relationship and Harry/Ginny relationships could be portrayed a bit better in the movies...

The total Harry Potter obsession? I completely get it. I have to restrain myself constantly for fear of scaring people off!

I know, some things just make no sense in the film! They feel okay to write completely new scenes in but find it impossible to add small but significant scenes like this in. The mind boggles.

Amen to that. I think the film was good overall though, even if many of the romantic relationships lack the complication and meaning that they have in the books.

I lovelovelovelovelove this one
First of all, of course I love the concept/scene. But artistically, you got everything down so well. The expressions and the composition really comes together well to get the feeling. And then the details. They're really a great touch- the awesomely done combat boots, the wood grain on the trees and where Harry's sitting, Harry's stubble and hat.

Also, completely agree with your artist's comment. The movies do not do the relationships justice and it's one of the most frustrating things about them to me.
